1996 Jeep Cherokee High Idle
Got a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country that is idling between 3,000 and 4,000 RPM. This thing is multiport fuel injection. How do I get the Idle back down to what it is suppose to be?
first things first, high idle can be caused by a bunch of problems. First, check all the vacuum lines, being a 96 (same year as mine) the plastic lines are starting to get old and brittle, might have cracked one. Also, sometimes pulling the battery out and letting it reset it self for about 10 minutes before re-installing might help. Check your IAC and TPS as well, the IAC can be removed with a t10 or t15 torx drive, and cleaned using a small toothbrush and throttle body cleaner. These things get gummed up after a while, and need either replacmenet or a good GENTLE cleaning.
Some obstacles can not be moved, those you have to either- 1)go around, 2)go over 3)go under, or 4) my personal favorite, blow the heck up and go through the rubble!
