1992 Cherokee Sport Starter

Have a starting issue. Turn the key and you hear the starter solenoid engage but starter does not turn. Do this 3 or 4 times and the starter comes to life and the engine starts. Swapped the battery out for a known good one, same issue, so changed the starter. Same issue. Turn the key and you can hear the solenoid engage but starter does not turn. No major draw off the battery. Checked the gound connection and all appears OK. Replaced the positive battery lead connector. Still no joy. Not a tough system. Any thoughts ?? 1992 Cherokee Sport, 6 cyl, 4.0, no air con.

check all your ground connections on both ends of the wires... was my problem when I wasn't getting a start. I had a loose ground connection on my engine block to battery cable.

Are you sure the starter is any good? You may have replaced a bum starter with another one. it does happen sometimes. Do you have any parts stores near by that test them?

Thanks for the replys. The new starter was a Bosch unit. Brand new, not a rebuilt. Guess that's the next step. Already checked the battery ground at the engine block and it was / is good. Seems funny I would get the same issue with the old and the new starter though.

Ground Strap

Anyone know where the engine to frame ground strap is on the 1992 Cherokee Sport ?? Could be my problem.

well on my 1990 its on the firewall a little to the right of the valve cover, not too hard to spot the flat wire.
