1991 Cherokee - replacement engine options

My son's '91 Cherokee Grenaded the #6 rod. Someone on forum sold him an "engine" which turned out to be a stripped down block/head. He didn't have me along and I also that the timing chain has too much slop. If I also have to put a chain on it, I think we will have too much in it. Since he exchanged labor (welding) for some of the cost, I think it's time to abandon that strategy and get a running engine. Question is - what 4.0 can I use? if I move the intake/throttle body from this engine over, can I get something newer say around 2000? Going to try to help him source the lowest mileage engine we can find so that likely means something newer than 1991.

Advice appreciated.

Any 1990-2001 XJ Cherokee or 1993-98 ZJ Grand Cherokee 4.0 L engine block will interchange.

Remove and re-use ( or replace with new ) as needed or required from the original engine: Intake/Exhaust manifolds, flex plate/flywheel, cylinder head, water pump, distributor-less ignition or distributor assembly, OBD engine sensors, fan belt driven accessories, and/or mounting brackets.

A new Gallup opinion poll shows the NRA, at 58% approval, has a higher approval rating than either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.

I have a 2000 xj engine with a thrown rod, can I use a 97 complete engine. My question is do I have to change the head or just change intake, exhaust, and brackets
