1990 jeep cherokee xj wont start

I go to start the engine and it acts like it wants to start but it just won't turn over, even when I press on the gas it won't start, I can smell gas under the hood and I have very low fuel pressure, I've changed the battery and did a basic tune up and replaced the thermostat, but I can not figure why it won't start, it was running a week ago. Please help me out, I need this jeep because its what gets me to and from work

Not advanced tech. We are trying our best to keep this section solely that.

PM a mod and ask them to move your thread to Cherokee Tech and you will get tons more answers

Edit, dang beat me lol

If you have low fuel pressure, I would think it could be the fuel pump or filter...Not sure what the pressure should be, you might want to search to be sure. Are you getting spark?

Yes I'm getting spark. I just replaced my battery, spark plugs, plug wires, rottery cap

Did it start doing this after the tune up ? Either way try unplugging the Crank senor and plugging it back in. My jeep did that for awhile until i replaced it.

I have an old 85 Cherokee, and if not started every day, I have to remove the air filter assembly and tap the fuel filter and top of carburetor where the fuel line comes in. Once that is done, I drop a little gas right into the carb and it typically starts up. Once it is running, it is fine. I tried to find a new fuel filter but no one seems to have one in this town! I managed to find a dodge fuel filter that looks similar, so I will install that today and see if it helps my problem.
