1989 Cruise Control

Hello, My Jeep came with factory cruise control but it doesn't seem to work. What makes the cruise control work? What wires do I check?

a common problem is the wires in the steering column going bad,

the wire to check comes out of the little stalk for your signals and goes into the steering column area. on my dad's xj it looked like a phone extension cable sorta

There is a switch on the brake pedal. The wire sometimes gets broken by big feet.

Do your HVAC vents work ok in all positions or do they default to defrost only?

There is a really awesome PDF about this here:
1993 Jeep Cherokee Cruise Control System Troubleshooting | car service & repair guide

Go down to the bottom of the article, and click on the word "Here" to get it. This PDF tells you all about the cruse system, how to test all the components. It's how I fixed mine
