1989 cherokee laredo sputters

I have a 1989 cherokee laredo 4.0 engine. It started sputtering whenever I pressed the gas. I thought it was the plugs. But I checked the oil and it was a little frothy and white. I thought the head gasket went but it wasnt overheating or shooting white smoke out of the tailpipe. I dont want to start dumping money into it if it is the head gasket. Can someone help? I recently got an oil change at walmart and put an engine flush in. Is it possible they didnt drain all the flush out and it did something to the engine? Also the sputtering is worse when the heat is on. Please help
