1987 XJ gas tank volume

I have looked everywhere I can think of. How many gallons does a stock gas tank for 1987 XJ hold?? I thibnk its 15 but I need to know for sure. Any help would be great!

20 gallons. The fuel cut off kicks in at about 15-16 gallons though. You can nurse a coulple of more gallons in there, just be careful you don't max it to 20. The gas will expand with heat.

just a hair over 20. i filled up las night

Completely stock, and keeping it that way...

The standard tank was 13.7 gals , the optional tank was a 20 gal , not sure if U.S.G or Imperial Gals , but thats according to the Repair manual

That time again for an oil change ?

If you want to drop the tank, it is stamped on the passenger side of it. Mine says 20gal.
