6 quarts. Use Wix or Napa Gold filters. No orange oil filters on 4.0s.

This needs correction, Cruiser: no orange oil filters on any engine.

The 4.0 will run on anything ... as long as there's no coolant in it.

I run Rotella T6 5w40 for 7k miles. Works great.

The 4.0L I-6 is not too picky between 30 and 40 weight, but sort of a loaded question. Without any background on the engine like miles, past oil type, driving habits, etc., it is tough to offer an oil that may be more suitable than another.

I have been running full synthetic Mobil 1-High Mileage, 10w30 for the last 6 changes now. Just got my UOA from Blackstone that shows low wear (Iron 15 ppm) after 4550 miles and a TBN of 2.9. With easy highway driving about 75% of the time, I plan on stretching to 6000 mi.

Do some 4.0s not like synthetic? I put 10-30 Mobil 1 in my 95 4.0 and had to chance the oil again in like 200 miles because it sounded like it was going to rattle itself apart. It was not High mileage Mobil 1 though.

I put 10-30 high mileage dino juice back in no filter change (NAPA gold) and it shut back up after just a few min. running.

I also had a 1600 Suzuki engine that made a lot more noise with synthetic in it than dino juice.

But our Honda Odyssey, 03 Tracker and 4.3 S-10 all run much much smoother with full synthetic oil.

I run Shell Rotella T6 5w40, and change the oil about every 7000 miles. I also use a full-size oil filter since there's room for it. (Purolator PL30001, which is a Motorcraft FL-1A equivalent).
