New to Alberta... what's the deal with FLUZ

hey there...

I recently moved to Canmore Alberta, and was looking for some trails... someone told me about FLUZ (forest land use zones) and i'm really interested in checking out Mclean Creek or Ghost.

Are there any regulations I should know of? I found some maps and info at http://srd.alberta.ca/RecreationPubl...s/Default.aspx and i see that there are designated trails for different vehicle types...

Do I have to get a permit for my Cherokee? It is licensed for the road in Alberta and insured?

Is it like a day use park? or just backroads in Crown Land areas?

Do you have to get a permit to camp overnight on these lands?

anything you can tell me would be appreciated. Info like where specifically should I head to once I get there... I could probably wander aimlessly and have fun but I like to know what not to miss when I'm there.

Thanks.

well, I just got back from Ghost Forrest Land Use Zone.... seems to be a no charge off road park. Camping looks to be free as well if you don't stay in the actual "campgrounds" so bring a shovel.

Even better, I gfound a free Garmin GPS Map for the Ghost area... It took a bit to figure out how MapSource works, but i got it.

Thanks for sharing. I'm pretty new to the game but wouldn't mind checking this out next summer.
