will this set up work?

I have a 2006 toyota tundra double cab. I have a 16ft utility trailer with brakes. I am wanting to use this to pull my 01 tj about 5 hours for a hunting trip. I live in central texas so terrain is pretty flat. I hoping to make this truck work since it is paid for and even though i like the new bigger tundra i do not like the payment that comes with them.

thanks,

Josh

You should be fine as your max towing capacity is 6800 and I doubt your jeep/trailer combo pushes more than 6000. Keep overdrive off. You may also want to look into an auxiliary transmission cooler if you have an auto. They're typically ~$100 or so installed at uhaul. Cheap insurance.
I used to flat-tow my 3280 lbs of jeep up over the rockies in a 99 4runner with that weak 6-banger, no problems.

My D35 grenaded at 65mph, fun times.

All double cabs come with v8's if I remember correctly.

yes the v8 that they used in 06, i think it is smaller than the v8 they are using in the newer tundras but it does fine in the smaller body style that i have. I have not towed anything as heavy as the jeep with my tundra(just atv's and a boat) I could not even tell i had the trailer behind me when loaded with that stuff but the jeep it alot heavier than those things so i was not sure if i had enough truck.

How did this ever work out for you?

I just picked up the same truck as you described?
