I know that road. First trip was in an 02 Dodge w an auto. Brakes started to fade and eventually became nonexistent. Used the only runaway ramp that we saw on the entire trip. Next year we took an 08 Dodge w manual and exhaust brake. The difference was unbelievable. Barely even had to use the (wheel) brakes. And the added torque with the manual made the climbs alot better too. We leave the 02 at home when we go to the mountains now!

Here's the 08. Loaded for the trip back from Buena Vista this time.

Working on finishing up my 75' F350 crewcab dually. 460/c6/3.73's around $2k in it so far.

The plan was to pick it up and make a cool old truck and maybe pull with it. 2wd so it will get dropped a couple inches.

Then the building economy went to hell, we both lost our jobs, and sold the PSD and the gasser crewcab I had too, so this is now my only truck to use for pulling. I'll run it silly until I save up enough and can pick up another newer truck and retire this to Sunday runs to Lowes, the dump, or whatever it feels like doing.

It's not for everyone, and the mileage may never be better than 10 or so, but it's cool, looks good, and is damn near bulletproof.

Need to get more pics, this is the only one I have after I did the $50 Rustoleum paint job.

'96 Dodge Cummins with beefed up tranny and other goodies (275hp/675torque) ... it does the job and does it well ... mountains or flat road it don't matter

Its Scotts (SDP)s kit, tripple 300s. They are a lot of fun, but I still have a stock lower so its way detuned for right now. Doing about 550-575 RWHP with Idaho Rob's tuning. One day when I build the lower I'll go for 1,050HP and 1800 ftlbs at the crank. I break stuff every now and then lol.

when reading the numbers I was like, close to mine (275 hp, 675 torque) ... until I saw the 550-575 RWHP (not torque)
And mine with just a little stuff (3k GSK, 16* 'tuning', BHAF, #5 TST, souped Goerend tranny with 3disc TC, straight piped, 4.10 gears, tranny/boost/pyro pods and blah blah blah) already pulls like a dream ... can't imagine what yours would pull like

The part I like best is it didn’t not come with a DPF, DEF or even a cat! so I can mod it and not worry about emissions as much. Although I still believe black smoke is wasted fuel…

And thanks Andy!

Black smoke is for ******s (the exception is straight puling trucks), it's a waste. Tune/build your truck right and it should smoke minimally. I'm hoping to pick up an 05+ power stroke in the next year or two, but that's subject to buying a house first and as we all know plans change

Yep-a little smoke to spool the turbos but after that you are just making heat and wasting fuel
