Trailers a 2006 Unlimited can tow?
I'm looking at getting a small travel trailer. A while back I bought this hitch, MOPAR® 3500 Lb Hitch Kit. I have a 2006 inline 6 - 4.0L Unlimited.
I was wondering if any others have travel trailers or can offer some suggestions as to what I can tow?
Thanks,
Dave

you have a 4.0L V6? I'd really like to see that, because Jeep never made a 4.0L V6. I've got a 4.0L Inline-6 in my Unlimited.
LJ's have a towing capacity of 3500lbs. I got a bumper off ebay with a hitch, and added frame tie-ins; had them welded on at a muffler shop for 20 bucks. got the wiring harness from www.etrailer.com .
As for camping trailers, I'm looking at www.adventuretrailers.com and www.aliner.com

I wouldn't touch an Adventure Trailer with a 10-foot pole. They are outrageously expensive and they have a lot of design flaws.
If you are looking for a small military/utility type trailer with a rooftop tent, check out http://www.offroadtrailerz.com/. Rick lives in Ventura and works at Genright. You can call him there and he can build what you want.
Here is the link to an all aluminum trailer, it is very nice and I actually considered it. http://www.haultent.com/index.html
If you are looking for a little more comfort and don't plan on going rockcrawling with the trailer, look into the Aliner http://www.aliner.com/ or Chalet http://www.chaletrv.com/. Both are really nice, and I think far superior than a traditional popup. The dealers are hurting right now and you can get substantial discounts on new units. You can get these to many remote campsites, set camp, and go wheeling from there. If you are ambitious, you can change a few things to make it more "offroad" worthy.
There are pop-up manufacturers like Fleewood, Jayco, and others. Other lightweight manufacturers some tend to consider are
http://www.livinlite.com/
http://www.casitatraveltrailers.com/home.html
http://www.scamptrailers.com/
I saw a thread recently about an Australian camper being imported and I'd have to dig it up. The ones from down under are really nice.
What exactly are you looking for? Size, amenities, etc... What's your budget?

The LJ should be able to pull any small trailer no problem (3500 Ibs max). Its the brakes that are it's weak spot.

biggest thing i've ever towed was this: http://www.uhaul.com/guide/index.aspx?equipment=opentrailer-6x12. i was moving a hot tub (~700lbs) and you could really feel it was back there. never felt squirrely but braking took a while. i also towed this once: http://www.uhaul.com/guide/index.aspx?equipment=trailer-5x10. when the wind gusts hit the back end got pulled a bit but otherwise not as bad.

What are you looking to tow?
I don't take it on long trips, only to haul firewood and my boat, but I have a 4x8 harbor freight trailer. Max weight it has ever been (trailer included) has been about 1k.

I am assuming you are asking about camper traielrs. I have one like the one in the link. I have had mine for about a year and pull it with my 01 grand. It has the 4.0 and it does ok. Weighs less than 3k empty. We like the trailer.

Just a suggestion, if you're going to pull a trailer the weighs over 1000lbs, make sure the trailer has brakes.

I pulled a 12' tent-trailer from the west to the east-coast last summer. 3 weeks of driving and I didn't have any issues pulling it at all. When I got back from the trip, I did a round of maintenance on it, and realized that somewhere along the trip, I developed a brake-fluid leak because there was no fluid left .. didn't even notice it.
Approx. weight towed was 3,000
I am selling this trailer and planning to buy an Evolution E1 to replace it.

I built a Teardrop trailer that I pull. Runs about 1800lbs. But many have built them as light as 600lbs.
