towing a motorcycle

need some input. im looking to purchase this motorcycle carrier

http://motorcycleramps.com/sport_motorcycle_carrier.htm

bike weighs 398lbs dry, 410lbs wet give or take a few pounds plus the hitch weighs 85lbs. so that's 500 total lbs. will the rear end drop considerably? i have a 96 GC.

I would look at the owners manual and see what the max tounge load is for the zj. If it is more than 500 pounds then it will drop but it shouldn't hurt anything.

I'm forever grateful to Speedycat and RnEmOvr for their generosity

I'm trying to do the same thing with my dirt bike on my 4-banger. I think there is an issue with tongue weight on the TJ not being high enough for a bike and carrier? Like 300 pounds or something....

I have heard plenty of guys say that it's not a problem and another bunch of guys that say not to do it. I'm going to try it regardless and will post results.

I'm looking to do the exact same thing with my CBR which would make the tongue weight around 500 lbs with the bike and carrier. Does anyone know what the tongue weight is on a 1982 CJ7? Would the tongue weight be the only thing you are worried about? Do you not think that the jeep would be back heavy with an additional 500 lbs? Please let me know your results on this. I am thinking about maybe installing a hitch with a heavier tongue weight to get it done.

If you want to see how much your vehicle is going to drop with said load on it. open the tailgate and put that much weight in concrete bags right on the hinge area. The more weight you put out back behind the axels the more it will drop. Add some air shocks or bags to help with the load.

I wouldn't hang my bike on a carrier like that.. YES your rear end will drop alot. Get a 4x8 tilt-up trailer from Harbor Freight

I have one of those that I put a dirtbike on. You get crazy, un-nerving flex. Personally, I'd get a folding trailer as someone mentioned. I wouldnt put my street bike on one of those.

I got my trailer from these guys:

Why not get a cradle? I have ordered one and can't wait. It lets you pull your motorcycle behind. It's easy to cradle the bike. It also is great because if you need to drop your jeep off for service, you can take off on the bike and vice versa for the bike. I can't wait to get mine next week! These sound Good. When you get it, please post on how it does. There are alot of trip I take that having the my bike would be nice. But, it gets left behind because I don't want to have to deal with the trailer.
