Towing Boat with Wrangler?

I am thinking about getting a jeep as my boat towing vehicle. My boat weighs 3800#; dual axel; surge brakes. Will a wrangler handle a Type III hitch and tow this boat for short distances (2 Miles to the ramp).
Thanks,
msl

2 miles should be fine as long as you stay at low speeds IMO.

If it is a neighborhood ramp nearby, you should be ok. I've launched and hauled my 20 Grady White to my ramp, but I didn't go over 30 mph. My boat is about 5K on the trailer loaded with surge disc breaks.

Does it push my TJ around? Yes, but I have no problem pulling it out or launching, although I will drag the wheels some when I hit the brakes backing in.

Make sure the hitch is tied into the frame. I had a hitch on my last TJ that was not, and pulled it away from the rear mounts.

I tow an 18' fiberglass boat with a I/O locally only to the boat launch. The ramp is fairly steep and like the previous post says, it used to drag the front wheels when I braked going down. Now I put in 4wd before I head down the ramp.

NO. I am usually the first to say go ahead and tow...I tow a 3500lb trailer with my Unlimited, I have towed many things with Wranglers including a 21ft 3500lb boat....that thing would not stop..... anything over 20-25mph and it was scarry.....
