We are moving about 3miles away, we have a 31 foot rvision trail lite weighing dry 4800 and tongue weight of 500, first had to pull out of back yard out and up a inclined dirt road. We used an f250 to tow it and park it back there but no longer own it. So being my jk has a brake controller and my wifes expedition doesn't I stepped up to the challenge all went well except a slight steep road. What should I check that might have been damaged while performing this tow.

What happened on the "slight steep road"???
Is it driving okay now?
I probably would have used the Expedition regardless of whether it had a brake controller, but to each his own.

on the steep road it was yelling on 2nd gear towing that thing, my rig is good to go, guess was just nerves and paranoia. definately will tow with expedition, just realized it needs brake controller and the harness.

^ **** off, spammer. If the Jeep if driving fine now, I wouldn't worry about it. My 2.5L TJ is rated for what, 1,500 lbs? I towed my dad's 18 ft. Lund boat, weighing in at about 4,500 lbs, no serious problems.
Edit: spam post was removed.

Towing beyond the rated capacity is a bad idea. Yes you can pull a lot more weight than what its rated at but thats not the important part of towing stopping is. A small vehicle like a jeep will get pushed around or just not be able to stop a heavy trailer especially when it weighs more than the jeep. 4800lb isn't that much for a expedition which is what I would of used regardless of a brake controller.

Agreed pulling heavy loads has nothing to do with pulling and everything to do with stopping, with your Jeep if the brake controller fails or the brakes fail, or something else your going to be in a very dangerous situation. The expedition with out a brake controller should be rated similar to a F-150 which is plenty capable of pulling and stopping the trailer you were pulling your jeep is not.

Just looked back, there was definitly a spam post between my post and the previous one. That wasn't aimed towards him at all.

Correctamundo....let's try to report the spam instead of replying to it, eh? That way when the moderators make it disappear, the conversation continues like nothing happened

knowing how to drive truck and trailer makes a huge difference vs having a heavy vehicle.
I towed my dads latemodle trailer from the 70s (homemade not by him) single axle around 1400 - 1500# with a 3000 lb street stock on it, for 2 seasons, with a 1988(1986?) oldsmobile cutlass cruiser full size wagon. Never had an issue with stopping, as I didnt drive too fast for my conditions. I did however just about manage to drag the hitch on the ground with new heavy duty cargo springs and larger rear tires lol.
we still haul with that trailer today. Hell I've had 3 of my jeeps on it in the last 3 years lol.
(I've personally had near 50 vehicles on it, no issues)
(drag car shell has changed alot since then, I wont bother with specs in this thread)

I don't know. The apparent irrational rant every now and then makes for an interesting read.
Guy asks question
Other guy responds with "Get cancer and die!"
I think, wow, he REALLY hates that guy.
I'd still switch to the other tow rig though. Most of towing is stopping when it comes to rating but you'll still have to remember some light duty parts in the drivetrain.

Yeah, I was the one to report it. I thought it showed that there was originally a post there. Lesson learned!

i know this thread is a bit old, but i guess my question is why in the world do you have a brake controller in a vehicle that is only rated at towing up to 3500lbs and not the one rated to actually tow?
