pulling my jeep with a dodge 1500??
hey everybody
doable or not. friend just got a dodge 1500, i think its a 5.7L, with a tow package. he offered to tow me to when we go wheeling. the place i would use it the most would be for going to the national forest, since its far away, and i hate having to baby it since im far from home. most of the trip is flat except for 1 mountain, which is pretty good grade up for about 4-5 miles id say. will it do it or not?

Shouldnt be a problem. Its either a 5.2 or 5.9 preferably the 5.9 for towing with a tranny cooler. But either way it should be ok

Before I got my 2500, I used to tow my XJ on a trailer to go wheeling with a 5.2L 1500. It was a dog, but it got me there and back without too many issues. My biggest suggestion would be to get a transmission cooler for it. I overheated the tranny a couple times on some very long uphill runs on the highway.

I've flat towed and trailed with my '07 1500. It has the tow package as well. IMO, the 5.7 does very well. I didnt have any problems and dont even really need to lay into the skinny pedal much. Some killer hills require some more gas, but if you figure out the shift points you can put it right where you want. I just finished a round trip to Tellico, totalling about 1300 miles. I averaged 11.3 MPG going there, with some nice hills along the way.

yes. we will be flat-towing it. either way it sounds like we should be ok. its only a little over an hour. but it sucks in the jeep, and i always have badluck on those roads. last time the jeep caught on fire...haha

I've flat towed mine behind my 4.0 tacoma up cajon pass in so cal at 60-65 mph no problem and all over with my motorhome. Jeeps tow really easy, there is no wind resistence like a box trailer or travel trailer and they only weigh about 3200 lbs.
