I don't even know if it is legal or safe or maybe even a death wish. But I think it would sure be cool if I could tow my jeep(cj6) with the pickup(2007 GMC 3/4 ton) and have another jeep(cj5) behind my jeep. I belive this would be called pulling doubles if both jeeps were regular trailers. I would love to just get a trailer that would fit both jeeps but my wallet says NO. Anybody ever tried this, seen it tried, or any experience with it at all? I'm thinking the problem with the idea mainly is in braking in an emergency situation.

From what i've heard, the only way to legally pull two separate things is for the first one to be a gooseneck/5th-wheel. But don't take my word for that. I've seen people pulling 2 regular trailers, and i've seen people pulling 2 boats. Doesn't look very safe.

In California to legally run tandem trailers the first trailer must be a 5th wheel and the second has to be a hitch type and the tongue weight of the second trailer cannot be greater than 20% of the load of the second trailer.

Plus you are required to have a license with a doubles endorsment.

My understanding is, that in addition to any other issues, you must have a CDL with tandem endorsement.

Okay so we got that it is not even close to legal. what about safe anybody tried it? I'm not worried about the hitches at all. My tow bar is built tough, and my receiver hitch is very robust because I built it and I pride my self in overbuilding everything.(When in doubt, overbuild) I think braking would be the downfall of trying this.

There are a couple nut bags that I've seen do it. Very foolish, even if both toads had a brake buddy of some type. I've got a pic of a TJ flat towing two CJs somewhere, can't find it now. But I do have these pics, showing one brave soul that tandem tows, and then the reason I don't flat tow anymore, and bought a tow dolly. Interestingly, last weekend my club went on a run to Uwharrie, NC; one of the guys flipped his CJ that was being flat towed. He's done it for 20 years problem free, then last weekend, bam, it's on its lid.
Seeing that should make you think twice about tandem flat towing.
(I don't know anything about the second pic, just one I came across before)

Well it looks like I'm not gonna risk it looking at that pic. I'm gonna start looking for a cheap trailer that can haul 2 jeeps. I'll have to get the tape measure out but I think I'm going to need about a 25 footer (sorry wallet, and soon to be wife)

In the theoretical world, you can get two Wranglers on a 25' trailer. But, before you commit yourself to that nightmare, I suggest that you try to actually do it. I have a 32' deck on my car hauler and it is a tight squeeze to get two jeeps on it and secured safely. I say try it before you buy it. Used, a 30 footer will be the same as a 25 footer and it won't be any harder to trail or park. Also, if one of those Jeeps turns out to be an XJ, you won't be disappointed.

A TJ is 12 1/2 ft long. i've fit 3 on my 38ft trailer. it's tight but works well.

That is from a member on here. It was a friend of his with front end issues on the TJ.

there is all kinds of uhhh...lets say unusual tandem set-ups being towed all over the southern states heading to our southern neighbors. Some states allow it, some don't. I flat tow my CJ, but would not tow another vehicle behind it. In an emergency i might consider a small trailer, thats about it.
