Keep in mind that motor vehicles must meet the standards of any state/province they are operated in, not just those in which they are registered. So, in other words, if you find yourself driving it through a state that requires fenders, you are subject to harassment by local law enforcement. Keep this note in mind with respect to trailer brake requirements, trailer weight requirements (brake requirements are usually based on weight), etc. It would suck to be somewhere and have to leave your non-conforming trailer on the side of the road.

We're done using it for the year, so it's not a rush right now, but sometime over the winter, I am going to install mud flaps instead of fenders.
I'd still get fenders. More functional, not much cost really. If you do get fenders - since you copied the adjustable axle idea - you'll need to make sure the fenders move with the axle. On mine, to do this, we welded brackets as necessary to the fenders, and then use the holes in the adjustable axle track to run bolts through. This way, fenders can move with the axle. You can see one of the bolts in the picture I posted.

beautifult work Mick!
unfortunately in Italy we cannot make self-made works, the law is very strict and is previewed that every thing that circulates on road must preventively be accredited, and nothing comes tested for private ones

Am I mistaken or do you still have too much tongue weight? I guess it depends on how you load it, but from the pictures above it seems that the tongue would be on the heavy side. Nice job, though.

No, I moved the axle to the forward position. It is now bearing the weight correctly.

Here is a more current pic of it
