well i recently got a 08 f-550 dump truck for work. i've never had a diesel and wanted to know about breaking a new rig. it's got 700 miles on it. i know with bikes you take it easy, run them at the same rpm for awhile and all that junk. but what about this thing. it's freaking huge. thanks, Matt

I'd start driving it like I stole it.
Or else......it'll start looking like this:

Fill it with rock, find some mountains and drive it like you stole it... the only true way to break in a diesel engine.

Did you perhaps consult your owners manual?

X2 on driving it like you stole it, just make sure that it is warmed up before you start to rip around with it. Diesel engines dont really "break" in till about 100,000 miles. I have only 65,000 on my 03 Dodge diesel, but i have a buddy with a 99 F-250 and it has 230,000 miles on it and there are no problems with the motor at all. Have fun with that beast

read the manual!
as per big truck diesels, load it up and run it hard. in a big truck, you have to try and get the pyro up a little to get everything on the turbo to seal up.
best thing, on any turbo diesel, is to give it enough time to warm up, and never, never shut it off before letting it cool down first.
running a turbo diesel, or any turbo, hard, and then just shutting off the motor is a sure fire way to destroy the turbo bearings. they get oil and lubrication from the motor's oil pump. if that turbine is still spinning after a long hard pull and you shut off its oil supply, say bye bye to the turbo!
i always get a first oil change at 5000 miles, then every 10k after that. i like to get that new oil out of there asap!!
