In need of some trailer specs

I'm wanting to build on off-road trailer that will eventually have a tent on top it. I will be building the entire trailer from the ground up but I'm not sure how big it needs to be. If anyone could help I need specs for the frame and the body (HxWxL).

If I was building one for the trail I would make it the same width as the Jeep.

What about length? Just long enough to have tent?

I would start by deciding how much stuff you want to haul in it.

My trailer's size was dictated by the three main features I wanted...
1. The ability to carry a three man roof top tent
2. I wanted it to look like a 1/4 ton army trailer, but be scaled up to match the size of my jeep. (An LJ dwarfs the Willys MB)
3. I wanted to be able to mount a fridge/ kitchen on a slide that was accessible with the lid closed & tent setup

I ended up with a frame that is 44" wide and roughly 130" long (counting the tongue). Where it meets the frame the body is 44"x70", and at the lid it is 60"x79".

There are multitude of trailer forums, as well as FB groups, out there about building for your own expedition/camping style. Many are based on the old military M416 1/4 ton Jeep trailer.

Take a look at expeditionportal.com/forum/
There is even a DIY mfr with a forum as well Dinoot trailer (http://tventuring.com/trailerforum/index.php) using a harbor freight frame, easily mod'd with basic hand tools, and fiberglass M416 like tub.
