Get a 3 pillar pod. Boost. Pyro, and fuel pressure. That way you can tell when the lift pump goes so you don't kill the injection pump

Oh, and hope it doesn't have a big "53" stamped on the block

I have no idea to be honest, where on the block would it be? and how do I tell if it is actually a HO motor? will it say it on the valve cover?

Drivers towards the front on the block, right above the oilpan....if there's a "53" cast into it....well, around 160k, start looking for another motor

gotcha, I'll have to take a look when I get out of class.

Now as for gauges I have been looking at this kit: 98-02 Dodge Ram Custom Diesel Gauges Package

What 3 gauges should I go with? I was thinking Fuel Pressure Gauge (100psi or 30psi?) Trans Temp Gauge, and I'm not sure what to go with for the 3rd. Boost?

I thought you said it was a "H.O", so its a 6spd, right?

If it's a 6spd MT, then don't bother with trans temp. Get fuel pressure, boost, and pyro (EGT).

See the dealer tried to tell me that if i had the auto then i had the HO but i haven't been able to find any accurate info on that.

Secondly, I've been told that if i tow at all that a trans temp gauge would be a good thing to have.

My last question is that if I have the tow package then I automatically have the oil cooler and tranny fluid cooler right?

If its an automatic, its NOT a HO. Only in the 3rd gens did the HO have the option of the auto.

It being a auto, get a trans temp gauge! Get a trans temp gauge!

and start saving for a DTT or similar trans.

Stock Dodge trannys even babied don't tend to make it much past 100k. I know, someones grandpa's dogs brothers friend has one with 5,000,000 miles and its never had the fluid changed, but in the real world, they don't hold up.

Get a BIG trans cooler, and a trans temp gauge. If you leave the motor stock (boring), it'll help limp it along...

gotcha, thanks Caribou. The gauges are definitely on the list. And I might as well throw on the deep tranny fliud pan as well.
