My First Hookup

So I get the old M416 off the shelf and dusted off. Fixed a brake light. Set up the old WJ pintle hitch. Crap. it is a few inches too low. I will not be lifting the JK for a year or two without a winning loto ticket. So, I'm going to have to get a new hitch that is a adjustable in height!

I guess I will also redo the ground wire while I'm thinking of it.

I'd gladly take that trailer off of your hands. It might help fund your lift.

Ohhhhh, tempting! but if I don't have the trailer then I don't need the lift!

What I do need is a good quiet pintle hitch!

ball hitches are not very safe for off road. I plan to pull my trailer off road so I really want to keep my lunette ring!

What axle are you using on your trailer, that doesn't look original under those excellent tires???

Ordered the axle through a local place
Same width just with 5 on 4.5 lugs

How is. Ball hitch not safe?
I grew up camping out of a Bantom trailer
Almost 40 years of off roading with trailer with ball hitches and never had a problem.

On trails? I have great hesitation to take a ball hitch over a dirt mound or over a rock that twists the rig over 15 deg.

On the axle, what width did you order? do you have a build thread for it? was the shock and springs a direct replacement?

"Twist" is one of the reasons I designed the hitch for my trailer to have 360 of rotation. I'll admit, it's overbuilt, but nothing ever broke because it was overbuilt.

Couple of pics while taking the trailer for a test beat during fabrication. The UHMW plastic bushings need no lubricaton, so no dirt-collecting grease:

The axle I ordered is the same width as stock. Just with no breaks I know I'll get crap for that one too. I stayed with a spring under and chose to modify the fenders.

The difference the left is modified the right is stock. ( just to sh the difference they are both modified now. Fits the 33s nicely

And as fa as shocks go I found I don't need them. Empty or loaded tracks smooth and under control.
