get the edge chip. we got that on our 2000 7.3l f350. It bumped out gas from 15mpg to 22-25mpg.

And ya gotta love the black smoke!!!

Black smoke = wasted fuel = not for me

I do feel better about chipping it now though.

Nice, can't really complain about that. You gonna do anything to make it last longer or improve towing? Other than the gauges do you have any other intentions for it? I was contemplating a diesel but my concern is that it will become as much of a toy as my ZJ has

I'm thinking add a transmission cooler, have a line on a valve body for the trans (BTS).

Right now, the Heep is still the money pit. I need to keep the tow rig conservative since it's going to be the mule.

Yeah that is what I was getting at. Is the tranny on the 01 electronically controlled, just curious if/when you chip it if the chip will have the means of controlling the transmission as well.

It's my understanding that yes, it's electronically controlled.

do yourself a favor and DON'T buy the edge chip, there are plenty of better tuners out there that are a lot better for your trans than the edge. Look into a 6 position chip from either Tony Wildman or TS, either one will get you just as good of mileage and be CONSIDERABLY better for your trans, trust me on this one, I used to own an edge and made the switch and never looked back

Love the truck, I have a 99 7.3 crew cab long bed and drive it daily, its a great truck and the motor is even better

Down the road, I'll be looking into a 6-position chip with CUSTOM tunes. Powerstroke Nation has several vendors that are perfect for that.

Chip is way in the future. I want a solid running truck (which it already is, just want to improve) first.

Do it right, do it once.

Update: Gauges are coming tomorrow, plus a chip. The guy I'm getting the gauges from is saving the chip for me anyway, and said "pay me when you can"

Brake controller is going in later this month.

Sweet!

I have a local friend who just put his (IIRC '01) 7.3L CC up for sale this week. Miles are ~150K. He's looking for ~13K for it. I drove this truck towing my Jeep & trailer from San Diego, to CO & Moab & back. Great truck!

if that truck was out here, it wouldn't last 3 hours, there would be people lined up around the block to buy it. For some reason, the 7.3's have rocketed in price lately, mine has 212k miles on it and everytime it goes to the dealership I get some ludicrous offer from them or one of their techs to buy it

hell, I'd buy it just to bring it out here and flip it

I love this rig - the stealership told me not to even think about haggling - he had 5 people lined up to look at it.

We looked at 1 other 7.3 a couple weeks before buying this one, and it was gone 2 days later when I was going back with a mechanic buddy to evaluate an oil leak. It never made it to the detail shop

Another one sold out from under me before I could even look at it.

F-250 CC SB with the 7.3 doesn't sit on the lot at all...they move FAAAAST.
