Harbor freight offraod trailer build

figured id finally do a log as im starting to near completion with it finally. il be updating as i go along, heres some pix of the process so far. its been a pretty low budget build being pieced together over the last year or so.

made the tongue from 2" square tubing slid inside 2.5" square tubing one bolt goes into the hole to lock it in place, the other just puts pressure down on the inner tube to keep it from moving around or vibrating. did one of those on my hitch on the jeep as well made so much less hitch noise.

craigslist wheels and shoes, $10 per tire and $20 per wheel tires are still about 1/2 tread. they come out to 32.6 inches iirc after the metric conversion on 18" wheels. will be nice to not drag axle half the trail or have all my stuff get wet because the trailer was half under water, lol.
014.jpeg
yaks loaded up could touch the back tires with the tongue lol
909.jpg
finally got the tires and wheels on with a new axle 5x4.5 lug pattern

these last few pictures are all from this week and last been getting alot of work done on it as my daughter (pictured) is finally old enough to take camping want to have it ready by then. have a campsite reserved for june 12-15.. so still some time left.

built the box from 2x12's, took 4 of them total cost of like $40 from lowes the 3/4 plywood i had left over from remodeling my bathroom last month lots of woodglue and angled wood screws to hold it together. after i lag bolted it to the frame it stiffened the poor frame up quite a bit.
11150401_10155384079805537_7533488258739956530_n.jpg
no good pix to show plasti-dipped the frame black and the white is a barn / fence paint, hoping it holds up well.

trailer-2.jpg
16 gallon tank added from class a customs, i sealed all the wood before i painted it with left over floor sealer i used in my bathroom gives the exposed wood a nice shine.
11139917_10155397374545537_553428836_n.jpg
used a dock cleat to wind the spare wire up on when the tongue is retracted
11156895_10155397374270537_334054668_n.jpg
new latches installed, really stiffened it up though being made from 2x12's it was pretty sturdy to begin with.

sorry the text is short and sweet just whipped the thread together on my lunch break alot of info over a short thread lol. future posts will be more detailed as im starting to take more pictures as i work on it more.

some sketchy at best fenders, lol i took the originals and just bent them out to give them a little more coverage, atleast they will keep mud from caking the side of the trailer and keep rocks from being flug into the back window of the jeep

the shelf is for cooking stuff, pots, pans, food, ect. it has two holes drilled into the back side of it that slide over the pins seen in the next two images works good for its intended use only holds 20lbs or so max, and easily packs away against the wall of the trailer inside.

redid the poly straps with some 550lb chain and i can finally just plop down on the tailgate without having to worry about it ripping the straps.
20150418_172937.jpg
also have soem d-rings to mount but not sure where i want them yet.

all in all its packed up and ready to load up and head out friday after work. for our first trip just stop for ice and beer.. err food on the way home.

im one of those people who will forget stuff so i figured being packed now, i will remember something i forgot, hopefully 4 days is enough time to remember everything i need.

i really need to find some kind of small spice rack or traveling spice rack, plan on cooking some fresh fish we catch out there

first trip out went excelent went and stayed 3 days 2 nights at a spot with a friend there. trailer performed excellently i did have one small water leak at the 3/4 to half inch barb fitting on the back of the spigot but fixed that when i got home.
two guys not being very sparing with the water including a shower each and washing dishes after every meal we still came home with at least 3 gallons left in the 16 gal. tank.

Wonderful setup you built, there. My husband, especially, would love it. He really loves camping. To me, though, "camping" is best done in a motel room with running hot/cold water, a small fridge, and a microwave :-).

I'll show this to Z in the morning. He may want to try something similar, himself.
