I've read some threads after a search but haven't found one specific to my question. When I flat tow my 1988 YJ with manual tranny, should the transfer case be in neutral and the transmission in neutral also? If not, can anyone please tell me how it should be set up and why?
hey did you ever get an answer to this? the general consensus i'm reading is that it's suppose to be transfer case in neutral and transmission in gear, but I had to flat tow my YJ 17 miles at about 30 mph with the transfer case in 2wd (the linkage is seized, moving it to fix everything up) and transmission in neutral. Do we know why it is bad for the transmission to be in neutral?
i ask because mine started to smoke, but the wheels were really hot so i think it was just the brakes rubbing or something
