I am not going to get into a debate about air pollution as this is a towing and tow rig forum.
So you think that people only want to hear the good side of things and none of the possible negative things to consider about a major purchase. I think he was asking for both sides. Im not saying not to buy a diesel. I have several. Im just saying that this information should go into the decision. The thread is Diesel or not.

I think that only a troll would get onto a thread in a Jeep towing forum and try to spew green nonsense.

If everyone who read your post bought a solar car, there wouldn't be enough "small particle" reduction to offset the output of one Trailways bus leaving Indianapolis empty.

So the point of your anti-diesel rant was to either: (i) show that you are the smartest guy in the room, or (ii) make someone feel guilty about letting their diesel rig idle outside the White Castle.

I'm guessing the latter because that is what green weenies do. Their leaders arrive in a G4 to tell the rest of us peons that we are ruining the environment. Well, I just went out and started up the filthy OM352 in my unimog and went down to the convenience store for a up of coffee in a cloud of diesel smoke. Too bad the wind blows west to east or you could have shared it.

Hmm, So who said anything about a solar car? And why would you let you truck idle ( gas or diesel). Does your diesel have a problem with starting?
These are the kind of (not my problem) attitudes that are resulting in trails getting closed all across the county. No one cares about anything except themselves until it is too late. BTY I only mentioned it because most people don't know that their is a problem. Just ask some one in Chicago what they think about air quality. Look what happened with all of the restrictions placed in California. Do you want that kind of regulation coming to your town. Im not saying don,t but a diesel. If you need one get one. Im saying have some common sense. (and letting it idle does not make sense)

They close our trails not because of anything I've done or said, or the thoughts or statements of others, or even the reckless abuse by a small minority of off roaders.

The close our trails for the same reason that they don't drill for oil in ANWAR. A coalition of wealthy liberals who would never steer their Volvo anywhere other than the on ramp to the Garden State Parkway and Sierra Club hikers who are happy if no one but a 25 year old in good shape and nothing on the agenda but two weeks in the wilderness ever sees these places. That's why are trails are closing.

I have a CTD, and even at It's worse, I still made out on fuel costs. I have to have a big truck for my business, so having 1/2 ton isn't an option for me. Even at 5$ a gal. I am getting (in most cases) double the fuel mileage of a comp. gasser truck. The engine life is far greater, and the driveability from day to day is FAR better when I tow my trailer. not to mention that when I sell it, I will recoup more of my $. The 5.9 is the best engine on the planet (imo) My brother had two F 350 diesels, and both were crap on wheels. I took my 1st gen. Cummins to over 200,000 before selling it locally in 03 when I bought this one. It's still tooling around working for a plumber every day, holding over 300K on it now.

Todays diesels are dirty nasty and rude and you must be too if you drive one for a 11 mile commute. Part of the problem.
What the bloody hell is this? Why do fringe lunatics come over to a JEEP forum to post??? go free Tibet or untangle a dolphin from a net or something will ya? be sure to ride your bicycle though.

i sold my tj to get a 05 with the 5.9 ctd. wanted something with more room, alittle better on fuel and something i could mod. modded it, demodded now im rolling stock for now. have exhaust, intake, built tranny and i know it could tow whatever i want it to. dont plan on using it as a tow rig. it has alittle over 85k right now on it and i havent had a prob since- i bought it with 53k on it last august. they are nice, roomy, very reliable and the aftermarket for them is great. i bought a xj to give thr truck a break so its just sitting right now. even when fuel prices were high, with my commute i was filling up once every 2 weeks so i was looking at around $150 twice a month. now with prices dropping- from a 1/4 tank im filling up for $80. that last me over a week and a 1/2. sounds great right? it is i think... heres a pic of her( older pics)

specs: 2005 quad cab, short bed, CTD, line-x, built goerend tranny w/ bd flex plate, fass pusher pump, s&b intake, 5" turboback w/ 6" tip, 35x12.50 procomp xat's, chrome h2 rims, lorenz leveling kit(coils NOT spacers), bilsteins at all 4 corners, isspro gauges...

rides pretty damn smoothe for a 3/4 ton.

Not that NADA is always perfect...but that price seems high. NADA says $11,350 clean retail for a 01 SLT Quad-Cab 4x4 with 66000 miles. Looks like a clean truck though.

The dodge you linked though isnt terrible if it is in good condition. I am sure the price is adjustable as well.
