which diesel?
We have a local truck dealership near us. they have a bunch of diesels but two caught my eye. one is a 2006 chevy 3500 with the duramax and allison transmission, crew cab long bed black with black leather. 80,000 miles and they are selling it for 29,000.
also have a 03 ford f250 with the 7.3 with 80,000 miles. its a long bed, extended cab, lariet, white exterior. looking 26,000. are these decent prices? Im looking at the 7.3 more because its been known to be a great engine. what should I look at into the 7.3 to make sure its ok. i started it the other day, it was a big chilly, the glow up was on for about 20 or so sec. when i turned the key it took about 8 sec to start is that ok for as cold not plugged in engine? ill prob put chip, exhaust and intake on either one, it will be a DD and used to tow probably my jeep once a month

I don't think either one of those is well priced. That Ford should be about 16-18, I'm not sure about the Duramax. But, at 29k Wouldn't it make more sense to just get a new one? A new one is gonna be like 42-44, the interest rate will be lower and as bad as the car market is, you may find a deal.

I'm sure you can get a few thousand off the prices of them though, haggle haggle and haggle some more! I dont know which I would choose, the Duramax and the 7.3 Ford are both great engines. I bet the 7.3 will get better fuel mileage, but the Duramax will be faster..... My Wifes 7.3 averages 20mpg town and 29mpg highway! I run an economy tune that bumps it up 60hp and a K&N air filter on it, it runs very well. If I could find a low mileage mint 7.3 I'd ditch my 6.0 Powerstroke in a heartbeat and buy it.

I would like having the 1 ton over the 3/4 ton, but like said the 7.3 would get better mpg vs the duramax. I would probally get the chevy since it is newer and is has the 6spd auto. And its pretty power out of the box with out all the toys.

If pressed, I'd take the Ford too.

they also have a 1999 f250 with the 7.3, short bed which I like, ext cab, cloth interior, 127,000 miles, can probably get it for around 15,000 and possibly a 3 yr 36000 mile warrenty. is this high milage for a 7.3? i want a reliable DD but something that can tow.

Ok, ok. You gotta go and look at the pricing on ebay. The "buy it now" price is what the seller would love to get but doesn't expect to get. You'll find that the average "buy it now" prices for those models is a lot less than what your dealer has. That will tell you that your dealer is too high.

Check out http://trucktrader.com/ and type in what you're looking for, it'll give you some pretty close prices of what everyone else is selling them for.

But ebay motors sets a ceiling on vehicles with the "buy it now" pricing that can't be found anywhere else. You know in an ebay auction that the truck can get bought below the buy it now price, you just don't know how much. For something as common as an F250 diesel, you can search completed auctions and determine which ones actually sold and for how much. I got the seller on my K2500 Burb to come down $2k by showing him the actual sales on ebay as opposed to the Kelly Blue Book number he was using.

I love going to the stealerships and having them tell me they use a "special blue book". I want a 3/4 ton suburban, I wish they made one now with a diesel. I would kill to have a new Ford Excursion with the diesel, I cant believe they quit building them.

Why in the hell they didn't put the duramax in that K2500 Burb, I do not know. My 454 is not nearly the engine as the diesel in my buddy's 3500 Duramax. But teh Burb drives and tows great because of all that weight in the back. Its like driving a 3/4 ton pick up with a 1000lb in the bed. Tracks great. I guess that's why GM's stock is in the toilet - because they make bad decisions.

whats a decent price for th 03 lariet supercab long bed with about 90,000 on it. he brought it down to 24 and some change. he also offers 60 month 60,000 mile warrenty for only 1800 or so which covers everything. with a 100 dollar deductable. i was looking at offering 24,000 with the warrenty and tags included. is this a good price? also what should I be looking at before I buy it. I test drove it today. it was cold not plugged in since it was sitting there cycling the glow plugs once i started up after cranking for about 8 seconds. ran good once it was warm from a stop i guess the engine being cold it must run like that. But normally I would let it warm up before driving it. but are these reliable trucks? anyone drive one? live in MD who can check it out
