1999 ford f250 7.3 toy hauler problems

My father in law is having some major issues with his 7.3.
Its a 99 4x4 quad cab (4 door).
He had his brother in law ("mechanic"...) replace a bunch of parts here lately and has pretty much gave him the run around now.
Im no diesel buff but heres what he texted me on his truck.

It start white smoke . Idle real rough. Before I got to my brothers it only go about 10 miles an hour. I had just put fuel in it when it started acting up. I've changed out the glow plugs the injectors the injector pump new valve cover gaskets which they are electronical. New water pump new radiator new starter new alternator . All the filters.

Any thoughts or trouble shooting tips?
This thing hauls his XJ and he is also new to diesels but its a 7.3 so it has to be worth the trouble.

Go to the diesel forum and post this up.

http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/

Having said that, first thing with any diesel is a compression test. Search for acceptable variation limits on the diesel forum.

Second, fuel troubles. Pressure is critical on a 7.3.

Here is a link that has some helpful tips:

Be careful at the BP station. They grade their operators down for not having green nozzle covers on all their pumps. Its caused more than one mistake at our local station.

My first though was putting gasoline in it instead of diesel. Especially if it started right after a fill up.

Not sure on the gas . We are going to pull the tank to make sure anyways and clean it out.
If he did put gas in it what is the damage from that?

pull the fuel filters first and check for water and or gas.
if it was driven a short distance with gas in the fuel, there probably wasnt any damage.

All this about the fuel? Do you have any reason to think you put gasoline in the rig? Its pretty hard to do since that little nozzle falls in there like Pee Wee Herman on a date with Oprah. I never did it. Never knew anyone who did and I have had diesels for decades.

Pull the tank?

Christ. Get a siphon hose and stick it in there and get out a few ounces and smell it. Then try to light it. Or disconnect a fuel line.

Really.

check fule pressure, also could be the screen in the tank plugged up, or even a cps.
check out the diesel stop, powerstroke nation, or any of the other diesel sites , they have way more info than I can post here

He replaced all the filters already. Doesnt know if there was water in the fuel. My suggestion was he look for water in the filter with the water seperator.
Im trying to help but he had the trick at some idiots house who's taking advantage of his thin pockets...
