First off, I don't want any hating or bashing on smittybilt products just your opinion on which is better.

I have a jeep tj with smittybilt flat fenders

My question is which would look better, the smittybilt stinger? Or the xrc? I am going to put a winch also.

So stinger or xrc?

Just thought I would see if anyone has ran into that situation before and how to prevent it from coming back.

I finally made up my mind and orded a Currie 4" lift with the A/R. :2thumbsup: Everything I have heard about Currie is that they are one of the best lift kits with the best ride.

I ordered it the middle of April, after a week I asked about a delivery date. I was told that they were out of springs and they would be getting more in the 15th of May. :(I asked yesterday that is was now after the 15th when I should be recieving them. They told me there was a problem with the front springs and they would be getting new springs in 10 -14 more days. That will be the first part of June, then I need to get everthing else done that I have been waiting for the lift first.

My worry it that will they tell me in another 2 weeks that they are still waiting for something else. I not sure I want to wait that long and then find another lift kit. Who else makes a kit that just as good

Have either a sensor or fuel pump issue. Drove 20 miles-ish, and engine died 10 times. I can theoretically track down why engine was dying, but why did my cluster crash when I still had power?

Doing 60 on interstate. Engine had died multiple times. Had to turn key off to get it restarted. Rolling along, and cluster crashed. Immediately thought engine died...but no, it was still running. Eventually engine died, and restarted. Cluster has worked fine since.

Any thoughts?

Also realized there was a makeshift cover made of garbage bag type material over coolant bottle. Any ideas?! New jeep owners!!

Clarification on lifted Jeeps Progressive

I just wanted to share some information i learned about what is covered and what is not covered in...

I just wanted to share some information i learned about what is covered and what is not covered in terms of lifted vehicles if you have Progressive.

1) Progressive does not use the term "suspension lift kit" to define lift kits, like so many have posted. They define it as a "lift kit".

2) progressive only allows for a max of 4 inch's in a lift, with no limitation on tire size.

3) because progressive uses the term "lift kit" you are in violation of coverage if you go over the lift size by using "body lifts" example 4 inch suspension with a 1 inch body. meaning they could deny coverage at any point, but what insurance provider does that.

There was a lot of debate that a body lift does not count, and it most defiantly does.

I was not able to find anything in my policy regarding "lift kits" you have to call and they will be more than happy to tell you the rules and provide a letter stating it, i was told its just not that common. I was also told this policy is nothing new and has been around a while (yrs)

Hopefully this cleared things up for some. I'm by no means an insurance expert, so call your agent.

Some may have had lift kits bigger and had crashes with no issues, and my hats off to you, but i have never had much luck with insurance companies, its A) a up hill battle all the way or B) you take it in the shorts

Sorry, I know searching should have answered this. I'm troubleshooting a steering shimmy. I did the old pry bar test with the axle jacked up and saw about 1/8" of up/down movement in both ball joints. I'm guessing that's too much? I can also wiggle my u-joint around with my hand when the tires are on the ground. Also guessing those are bad. What I'm confused about though is I don't feel any play grabbing my tire at 3 and 9, but when I was prying to check my ball joints I noticed that the axle shaft inboard of the u-joint moved up and down. If the unit bearings were good wouldn't it hold the shaft still?

Hi, im working on a 97 TJ 4.0L , the front Dana 30 specifically. It is being regeared from...

Hi, im working on a 97 TJ 4.0L , the front Dana 30 specifically. It is being regeared from factory 3.73 to a 4.88. The gears are superior axle and gear part # d30488tj.

Before I disassembled the dif i measured ring gear backlash it was 0. ok not right but whatever it's being regeared.

I removed the carrier bearings and measured the shims under the bearings for each side. The bearing on the passenger side of vehicle had .074 " and the drivers side had .033 of shims.

My problem is that with the new ring and pinion installed i cannot get the ring gear close enough to the pinion, if i pry the passenger side bearing race over with a prybar it has .050 backlash , that is with no shims on the drivers side of the carrier, i also stuffed as many shims as possible on the passenger side and torqued the bearing caps down, no difference.

Im at a loss here, the carrier bearings are Koyo brand, I dont know if thats the problem? or will this carrier not work with 4.88's?

I cannot tell you pinion depth at this time. I can tell you that the factory 3.73 pinion had no shim on it at all. so i tried the 4.88 setup with no shim. I also tried it with a .020 shim just to see if i could get less backlash, didnt happen.

I'd appreciate any insight. Thank you.
